Scolan, Huseboe Earn Major Awards; Vodenlich named Coach of the Year

10 Total Warhawks named to WIAC All-Conference Teams

Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South), Max Huseboe (Ripon, Wis./Ripon), and Head Coach John Vodenlich from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater earned major awards from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in a release this afternoon.

For the second consecutive season, Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) was named the WIAC Position Player of the Year. Scolan has had a phenomenal season, setting Warhawk career records in At-Bats (751), Hits (288), RBIs (214), Home Runs (52), and Walks (119). In the WIAC record book, Scolan set the new mark for Runs (255). This season, Scolan is leading the WIAC in Batting Average (.426), OPS (1.361), Runs (69), Hits (75), RBIs (55), and home runs (17).

Max Huseboe (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) is the 10th overall (and second consecutive) Warhawk to earn Pitcher of the Year from the conference. This season, Huseboe leads the WIAC with 71 strikeouts, ranking fourth in innings pitched with 61.0. In conference games only, Huseboe ranks first with a 2.38 ERA, only allowing 12 earned runs in 45.1 innings of conference work.

Head Coach John Vodenlich was named the Coach of the Year by the WIAC for the second consecutive season. Vodenlich set the WIAC Coach Wins record earlier this season with his 729th win at the helm of the UW-Whitewater baseball team. Vodenlich is currently at 767 wins, ranking 17th in active NCAA DIII coaches (37th all-time).

Along with Scolan and Huseboe, four others were named to the All-WIAC First Team; Designated Hitter Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), pitcher Logan Eisenbarth (Barrington, Ill./Barrington), pitcher Cade Hansen (New Braunfels, Texas/Smithson Valley), catcher Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North).

Cootway and Holland were both in the top five in the conference for hitting. Cootway was tied for Scolan, leading the league in home runs (17) and RBIs (55). Holland was an effective all-around batter, ranking in the top 3 in WIAC for Batting Average, Slugging Percentage, Runs, and Hits.

On the bump, Cade Hansen (New Braunfels, Texas/Smithson Valley) leads the league with a 9-1 record. Eisenbarth has been a key reliever, collecting three saves on the season with a 5-0 record.

First baseman Eli Frank (Bayport, Wis./Bay Port), shortstop Darryl Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King), and second baseman Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) round out the Warhawks on the honorable mention All-Conference.

Frank leads the conference with 8 sacrifice flys, while Darryl Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) is top five in both walks (2nd-27) and On Base Percentage (4th-0.489). Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles) has been a key part of the Warhawks' defense with a WIAC-high 129 assists.

Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) represents the Warhawks on the All-Sportsmanship Team. The third-baseman is batting a .361 this season through his 35 games.

UW-Whitewater won the conference outright, picking up both their 23rd WIAC Regular Season and 9th WIAC Tournament Title. They secured a spot in their 26th NCAA Division III Tournament, where they will be on the road to Adrian, Michigan. The Adrian pod consists of WashU, Ohio Northern, and Adrian. The Warhawks will face the host school at 2:30 PM on Friday to being regional play.
