The UW-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving program hosted a double-dual against Lawrence and Lake Forest Saturday afternoon in Whitewater. The Warhawk men swept with a 191-50 win over Lawrence and a 134-128 victory over LFC. The UWW women topped the Vikings 207-74 but fell to the Foresters 166.5-125.5.
The 200-yard medley relay kicked off the meet Saturday. The top UWW women's squad featured
Izzy Doczy (Greendale, Wis./),
Hannah Wenszell (West Bend, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual),
Jenna Denton (O'Fallon, Ill./) and
Emily Connell (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) who combined for a second-place time of 1:54.92. A pair of Warhawk men's combinations went 1-2 in the event with the top foursome featuring a time of 1:36.42 from
Ethan Schmohe (Sullivan, Ill./),
Donny Gramer (Dekalb, Ill./Sycamore),
Ethan Bergman (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) and
Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./).
The first individual event of the meet was the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Nikolina Gallo (Greendale, Wis./) was the first Warhawk to touch on the women's side. Her clocking of 11:29.84 was good for silver.
Caleb Weis (Burlington, Wis./) repeated the feat for the men with a second-place time of 10:31.41. In the 200 freestyle, UWW swept second through fourth led by a 2:04.27 from Connell.
Grace Linstroth (Port Washington, Wis./) claimed third four seconds back while
Addi Sanow (Munster, Ind./) finished fourth. Schlueter picked up the first individual event win for the Warhawk men at the meet with a clocking of 1:50.06.
Owen Phillips (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) finished third in the event with a time of 1:51.56.
Jenna Denton (O'Fallon, Ill./) was the first to touch in the 100 backstroke stopping the clock in 1:01.49 with Doczy registering a third-place time of 1:03.74. Schmohe was the top finisher for the UW-Whitewater men with a 54.73 to secure silver. Teammate
Noah Johnson (DeKalb, Ill./) touched in 56.46 for third in the event. The 100 breaststroke saw
Amelia Davey (Phillips, Wis./) leading the Warhawk women with a third-place time of 1:16.89. For the men,
Donny Gramer (Dekalb, Ill./Sycamore) paved the way besting the competition by nearly four seconds with a first-place time of 1:00.76.
Hannah Gault (Moline, Ill./) finished fourth with a time of 2:33.79 in the 200 butterfly.
Daniel Keller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista) registered the top time in the men's race with a 2:05.20.
In the fastest race of the day, the 50 free, Linstroth claimed second witha time of 25.70 while Bergman was also second for the men with a time of 22.40. The 100 version of the free had Connell and Sanow finishing back-to-back in second and third respectively with times of 56.42 and 57.57. For the men, Schlueter was second (49.04) while Gramer was fourth (49.44).
Doczy led the Warhawk women in the 200 back with a time of 2:20.14 to finish second. Schmohe paced the men with a third-place time of 2:06.92 - just .11 back from silver.
Gala Boutin (San Antonio, Tex./Smithson Valley) was the top finisher in the 200 breaststroke with a fourth-place time of 2:50.32. On the men's side, Johnson topped the podium in a tight race with a time of 2:19.14 - out-touching second by .15.
Isaac Schroeder (Waukesha, Wis./Homeschool) finished third in the event with a time of 2:23.43.
Gallo added a second silver on the day with a time of 5:35.69 in the 500 free. Weis once again matched the second-place finish for the men with a time of 5:04.48.
The 100 fly was led by Denton's third-place time of 1:01.54 while Bergman was the top swimmer in the men's race with a first place clocking of 53.38. Matthew Ozog and
Owen Phillips (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) added third and fourth place times of 55.26 and 57.08 respectively.
Wenszell and
Rylie Bergemann (Racine, Wis./Union Grove) paced the Warhawk women in the 400 individual medley. The duo went 2-3 led by Wenszell's time of 5:04.83. Schroeder led the Warhawk men with a time of 4:32.54 - good for second.
In the final relays of the meet, the UWW women's squad of Denton, Sanow, Linstroth and Connell cruised to a five-second gold in the 200 free relay coming into the wall in 1:42.34. On the men's side, Bergman joined Phillips, Gramer and Schlueter for a time of 1:27.85 -- just .21 seconds behind gold for second in the race.
Brookelyn Kelpfer led the one-meter diving competition with a total of 202.20 while
Jersey Schweitzer (Oak Creek, Wis./) took the three-meter competition with a total of 203.50.
The Warhawks will host UW-Eau Claire on February 1 in their final action before the WIAC Championships slated for February 19-22.
