Warhawk Men Sweep Double Dual

Appleton, Wis. -- The Warhawk men's swimming and diving team registered a pair of wins in a double dual hosted by Lawrence University Saturday. UW-Whitewater topped the home squad 194-34 and defeated Lake Forest College 163-66. 

The Warhawks set the tone with a win in the first event of the meet - the 200 yard medley relay. UWW's combination of Ethan Schmohe (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan), Noah Johnson (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb), Ethan Bergman (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) and Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) posted a time of 1:38.77 to out-touch the second place squad by over a second. 

In the first individual event of the meet, Daniel Madson (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah) gave the Warhawks another gold. The freshman was the first to touch in the 1000 freestyle recording a time of 10:36.08. Caleb Weis (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) was the top swimmer in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:58.77 followed by Madson's 5:07.37 in second.

Schlueter and Weis went 1-2 in the 200 freestyle. Schlueter paced the event with a time of 1:48.31 followed by Weis' 1:50.21. Bergman captured a gold in the fastest event of the day - the 50 free - with a time of 21.97. Matthew Ozog and Schmohe followed suit in the 100 butterfly. Ozog won the event with a time of 55.27, out-touching Schmohe by one hundredth of a second.

Owen Phillips (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) came into the wall in 2:02.92 to win the 200 yard individual medley while Johnson secured third with a time of 2:05.18. Phillips picked up his second win with a time of 55.47 in the 100 backstroke. Matt Bricco claimed bronze in the event with a time of 57.77. 

Bergman secured his first individual gold with a clocking of 48.45 in the 100 freestyle. Johnson picked up a win in the 100 breaststroke with a first place time of 1:02.29. Brenden Spaulding (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) added a top three finish for UWW with a clocking of 1:03.29.

The Warhawks capped the swim events with another relay gold. Schmohe led off the squad that featured Bricco, Phillips and Schlueter for a time of 1:29.17 in the 200 free relay. 

In the diving competition, Drew Schmitz (Appleton, Wis./North) finished second off of the one meter board with a total of 244.40. He added a second silver with a total of 203.70 in the three meter competition.
