The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in a triple dual hosted by Lake Forest College Saturday afternoon. The Warhawk men defeated LFC 121-96 and Lawrence University 176-37 while the UWW women topped LU 146-77 and fell to the host team 61.50-167.50.
The Warhawk men registered a gold in their first event of the meet.
Ethan Schmohe (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan),
Noah Johnson (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb),
Ethan Bergman (Racine, Wis./Bradford) and
Donny Gramer (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) combined for a time of 1:52.35 to win the 200 medley relay. The top women's team in the event took third as
Izzy Doczy (Greendale, Wis./Greendale),
Hannah Wenszell (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual),
Paige Malitz (Wausau, Wis./DC Everest) and
Ava Hennig (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) posted a time of 2:13.47.
UWW swimmers took third and fourth in both the women's and men's 800 free.
Amanda Harper (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) was clocked in 10:51.41 followed by
Logan Cunningham (Sun Prairie, Wis./East) with a 10:56.08. For the men,
Caleb Weis (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) came into the wall in 9:15.28 while
Isaac Schroeder (Waukesha, Wis./) finished in 9:36.40.
Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) claimed gold in the 200 free besting the competition by nearly two seconds with a clocking of 1:58.93.
Hunter Hayberger (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky) added a fourth-place finish in the event with a time of 2:08.67.
Bergman added an individual gold to his day with a time of 24.68 in the 50 free. Gramer was clocked in 25.57 for fourth. On the women's side,
Emily Connell (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) came into the wall in 29.08 to finish as the runner-up.
Wenszell was the runner-up in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:38.32. For the Warhawk men, Johnson and
Daniel Keller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista) came in second and third with times of 2:18.05 and 2:20.22 respectively in the event.
Malitz and
Lauryn Moneta (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) finished back-to-back in third and fourth in the 200 fly. The pair posted times of 2:43.92 and 2:53.43 respectively.
Matt Sipin (Round Lake, Ill./Grayslake Central) was fourth in the men's race with a time of 2:29.99.
Connell had the top time for the UWW women in the 100 free with a bronze time of 1:04.24. Schlueter picked up his second individual first place finish with a time of 54.99.
Owen Phillips (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) added a bronze time of 56.99 in the event.
In the 200 backstroke, Wenszell's time of 2:36.17 was good for second while Doczy tied for third with a time of 2:38.94. Schmohe's clocking of 2:23.70 came in third for the men.
Gala Boutin (San Antonio, Tex./Smithson Valley) led the Warhawk women in the 400 free with a third-place time of 5:14.58. Weis and Hayberger captured second and third with times of 4:31.58 and 4:32.76 respectively in the event.
Grace Jasken (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) was the runner-up in the 200 breaststroke with a clocking of 3:02.74 while Cunningham posted a time of 3:09.29 for fourth. Johnson's time of 2:34.34 was tops for the men with Keller's 2:39.71 taking third in the event.
In the final swimming events of the day, UWW's combination of
Andrea Bullman (Batavia, Ill./Batavia), Doczy, Hennig and Connell were clocked in 2:01.47 for second in the 200 free relay. The Warhawk men secured gold in the event. Schmohe led off for Phillips and Bergman with Schlueter as the anchor for a time of 1:38.70, out-touching the LFC foursome by just over five-tenths of a second.
Drew Schmitz (Appleton, Wis./North) claimed the title off the one meter board with a total of 237.95.
Daniel Farrell (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and
Edwin Villagomez (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) posted scores of 210.65 and 170.10 for third and fourth respectively. Lydia Wirkkula's total of 140.60 was good for fourth for the UWW women in the one meter competition.
Schmitz, Farrell and Villagomez secured second through fourth place in the three meter competition with scores of 196.25, 177.60 and 168.05 respectively.
