The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's golf team finished atop the leaderboard in the 18-team Battle on the Border hosted by Carthage this weekend. The Warhawks cut 15 strokes off their first round score with a 308 on Saturday for a two-day total of 631, a top 15 mark in program history.
Ellie Johnson (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) posted a 72 Saturday, the second-best score by a Warhawk golfer recorded in program history. Her two-day card of 149 was the best individual score at the tournament and is the fourth-best in UWW women's golf.
Abbie Reiser (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) finished fourth at the tournament with scores of 81-78-159 while
Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig) came in just outside the top five with a total of 161 (83-78).
Lily Sheppard (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) rounded out the Warhawks finishing in the top ten individually after carding identical 82s on back-to-back days.
Kellie Shanahan (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) also competed on UWW's top squad at the tournament recording a 170 (90-80).
A second Warhawk fivesome finished fifth among the team leaderboard with rounds of 341-337 (678).
Emily Akers (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) led the way (86-80-166) followed by
Haley Myers (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) (84-83-167),
Jessica Velent (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) (84-86-170),
Megan Honn (LaFayette, Ind./Jefferson) (87-85-172) and
Emma Norton (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) (95-89-184).
Sammy Galian (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) played as individual and carded two consecutive rounds of 91 for a total of 182.
