Seven Warhawks represent the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on the 2023 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Teams announced Wednesday. Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) headlines the group as the 2023 Kwik Trip Player of the Year. He was joined on the All-WIAC team by Jacob DeMeyer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander), Max Huseboe (Ripon, Wis./Ripon), Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South). Cade Berendt (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) added Honorable Mention honors while Joe Gorden (Fox Lake, Ill./Grant Community) was UWW's representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team. Nick Paget (New Berlin, Wis./West) was announced as the league's Max Sparger Scholar Athlete during the WIAC Tournament last week. 

Cootway, a junior infielder, is the first WIAC Position Player of the Year for UWW since Cal Aldridge earned the honor in 2019. A Warhawk has been selected as the league Player or Pitcher of the Year the last seven seasons. This season, Cootway was impressive at the plate entering the conference record book as the tenth player in league history to hit for the cycle in a game - he added a bonus homerun in that outing. Cootway led the WIAC in multiple offensive categories including batting average (.477), runs (59), hits (71), triples (5), RBI (67), slugging percentage (.933), hit-by-pitch (14) and on base percentage (.560). His marks for batting average, RBI, slugging percentage and on base percentage are all among the top 10 for all Division III baseball players this season. 

The Warhawk mainstays in the outfield all earned All-WIAC honors this season. Paden, a sophomore, was second in the league with a batting average of .476, a mark that is ranked seventh in Division III this season. His 50 hits, 13 doubles and .533 on base percentage are all top 15 marks in the WIAC. 

DeMeyer, a junior outfielder, earns his third All-WIAC honor this season after securing honorable mention recognition in 2021 and 2022. This season he ranked among the top five in the league in batting average (.386), at bats (166), runs (52), hits (64) and walks (26). DeMeyer's 36 RBI was 11th-most in the conference. 

Scolan, a sophomore outfielder, posted top five marks in the WIAC in at bats (175), runs (52), hits (60), triples (3), homeruns (10) and walks (26). His .621 slugging percentage ranked eighth while he was tenth in RBI with 36. DeMeyer hit .355 on the season, 13th-best in the league. 

Huseboe, a junior pitcher, posted five wins on the mound this season for the Warhawks, tied for seventh-most for a pitcher in the league. His 42 strikeouts ranked 13th in the WIAC. For the season, Huseboe registered an earned run average of 4.07 in 42 innings pitched. He made 16 appearances holding opposing batters to an average of .248 at the plate. 

Berendt, a fellow junior hurler for UWW, is now a two-time All-WIAC pick (2022). He ranked second in the league in strikeouts (68), fourth in innings pitched (63.1), sixth in ERA (3.41) and eighth in opposing batting average (.253). Berendt also registered five wins on the season. 

Gorden, a junior catcher, made 17 appearances on the diamond this season. 

Paget, a senior, split time between first base and as the designated hitter for the Warhawks this season. He is the sixth Warhawk to be named the WIAC Max Sparger Scholar Athlete for baseball in the last seven seasons. Paget boasts a perfect 4.0 grade point average in mathematics with a minor in general business.
