The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's golf team finished atop the leaderboard at their spring invitational, the Spring Fling, in Janesville Saturday. The Warhawks were first in the 14-team field.
UW-Whitewater had three squads competing in the tournament Friday and Saturday. The top fivesome carded a total of 620, ten strokes ahead of Aurora in second. Ellie Johnson was the individual leader at the invitational with a second round of 75 and tournament best of 147.
Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) carded a 77 in round two for a total of 153 to finish third.
Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig) tied for fourth with a two-round score of 158 andd
Lily Sheppard (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) added another top ten card tying for eighth with a 162. Madison LaPaz rounded out golfers in Whitewater's top team with a two-day total of 185.
A second Warhawk group finished fourth.
Haley Myers (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) led the team tying for fourth with a 158.
Abbie Reiser (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) (173),
Grace Westerman (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) (173),
Lauren Winter (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) (181) and Jessie LaBerge (181) rounded out the group.
The third group representing UW-Whitewater included four golfers.
Jennifer Berardi (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and
Sarah Ewing (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves) tied for 14th individually with matching 168s.
Emily Akers (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) (180) and
Sammy Galian (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) (191) also contributed to the team's total of 707.
First Round Recap:
The Warhawk's first squad is the top team so far in the Invite. Out of the first squad, Ellie Johnson finished as the top golfer overall in the first round with a 72 on the card, Johnson was 35 on the front nine (-1 on par) and 37 on the back nine (+1 on par) to make Even on the first round.
Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) and
Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig) were next up on the leaderboard, Sinak, tied for second overall, finished with 76 and Lux made the top five with 79 in the first round. Finishing out the squad are
Lily Sheppard (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) and Madison LaPaz. Sheppard sits tied for 10th with a 81 in the first. LaPaz, narrowly sits outside the top 20 with an 87 for the first round.
The second Warhawk group sits in third on the overall leaderboard after one round. This squad includes
Haley Myers (Somerset, Wis./Somerset),
Abbie Reiser (Washington, Ill./Washington Community),
Grace Westerman (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc),
Lauren Winter (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg), and Jessie LaBerge. Myers sits in tied for fourth on the Player Leaderboard after shooting 79 in the first round. Westerman scored an 81 in Round One and sits tied for 10th. Reiser and Winter both sit just outside the top-30 both shooting an 89. LaBerge is not too far behind, scoring a 91 in the first round.
The third Warhawk squad finished just outside the top-5 teams after the first round. The foursome that sits in sixth consists of
