The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving program will compete in the 2023 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Wednesday through Saturday at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.

**No cash in-person ticket sales -- tickets will be credit card only and will have an additional processing fee or can be purchased at the link above in advance. 

The Warhawk men and women will look to improve upon their fourth places finishes in 2022 at this season's championship meet. Below is a chronological by-individual event outlook for the Warhawks heading into the 2023 WIAC Championships. 

500 Freestyle: Hunter Hayberger (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky), a sixth-place finisher in the event last season, heads into the meet with the second-fastest time in the league, 4:43.06. Ciara Hynes (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) ranks among the top 20 in the conference this season with a seed time of 5:38.16. 

200 Individual Medley: Gabby Sponseller (Goshen, Ind./Concord) boasts the second-fastest time in the WIAC this season, 2:13.17. She finished fourth in 2022. Naomi Hamerla (Lac Du Flambeau, Wis./Lakeland Union), Gianna Gnewuch (Madison, Wis./Verona Area) and Hannah Gault (Moline, Ill./Senior) also hold top 20 times heading into the championship. On the men's side, a group of three Warhawks rank in the top 20 including Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) (2:00.33, 9th), Daniel Keller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista) (2:01.73, 11th) and Joey Wenszell (2:03.11, 14th). 

50 Freestyle: Warhawk phenom Zaria Terry (Madison, Wis./La Follette) holds the top time in the league so far this season. She set a blistering pace of 24.07 at the Wheaton Invitational -- the best in the league this season by nearly three-tenths of a second. Teammate Emily Connell (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) holds the seventh-fastest time in the WIAC at 25.01 while Maren McDonnell (West Bend, Wis./East) and Ava Hennig (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) rank among the top 20. Ethan Bergman (Racine, Wis./Bradford) has the top time for the Warhawk men at 21.68, the 11th-fastest in the WIAC. Schlueter comes into the championship seeded 16th. 

400 Individual Medley: Daniel Keller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista) and Wenszell each hold top ten seeds. Keller's clocking of 4:19.56 is ranked sixth while Weszell is eighth at 4:20.92. Zak Nowakowski (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) and Dan Emary (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) are also seeded in the top 20. Gault is the top Warhawk entering the event with a seed time of 5:07.26, the 14th fastest this season. 

100 Butterfly: Terry heads into the event with the third-fastest time in the conference at 58.03. Hamerla is 11th at 1:01.44 and Hynes, who finished ninth in the event last season, is 18th going in. Bergman leads a four-Warhawk contingent in the top 20. He stands fourth, just .02 out of the top three, with a seed time of 52.10. Coons, a sixth-place finisher a year ago, is eighth this season while Matthew Ozog (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) and Matt Sipin (Round Lake, Ill./Grayslake Central) add top 20 marks. Wenszell, who stands just outside the top 20, captured fifth in the event in 2020 and was ninth last season. 

200 Freestyle: Schlueter boasts the top time in the event heading into the championship, 1:42.34. Hayberger, a ninth-place finisher in 2022 is seeded 16th this season. Connell adds a top 20 seed for the Warhawk women at 2:04.48, 18th. 

100 Breaststroke: Sponseller goes into the meet ranked where she finished a year ago, fifth. Gnewuch and Grace Jasken (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) also rank among the top 20 while Donny Gramer (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore), an eleventh-place finisher last season, holds the six seed this season with a time of 58.99. Tony Mrozowski, who finished 12th in 2022, is seeded 13th. 

100 Backstroke: Four Warhawk women are seeded among the top 20 this season led by Gnewuch and Connell in 11th and 12th respectively. The pair finished 10th and 14th last season. Izzy Doczy (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) and Hamerla are listed 18th and 19th. For the UWW men, Coons and Wenszell hold top 20 marks. Both finished in the top 15 a year ago. 

1650 Freestyle: Hayberger registered the fifth-fastest time at last year's championships (16:40.29) and is seeded fifth going into this season's. Emary and Brady Peetz (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) also hold top 20 seeds. Brianna Zimdars (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) was 11th in the event last season and is seeded 13th in 2023. 

200 Backstroke: Five UW-Whitewater women are seeded in the top 20 this season. Hamerla's 2:11.10 is sixth and Gnewuch ranks eighth with a time of 2:12.62. Gnewuch was eighth in the event in 2022. Doczy, Zimdars and Raigan Good (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) round out the top 20 seeds representing UWW. Coons leads the Warhawk men in the event with a sixth-seeded mark of 1:58.00. He was tenth in the event last season. Wenszell, a two-time top eight finisher in the event including a runner-up finish in 2020, is 15th heading into the championship this season. 

100 Freestyle: Terry will look to sweep the two fastest freestyles as she holds the fastest time in the league this season by nearly 1.5 seconds, 51.78. She posted that mark at the Wheaton Invitational this season, breaking the program record set by Renata Schlomann at the 2020 WIAC Championships. Connell, Hynes and Hennig also rank among the top 20 this season in the event. On the men's side, Schlueter is less than two-tenths of a second off the top time in the league this season with a clocking of 46.27. Bergman is listed 13th heading into the championship.

200 Breaststroke: Sponseller captured bronze in the event last season and heads into the 2023 championships seeded third with a time of 2:29.45. Jasket and Aliya Griffiths (Labanon, Ore./Lebanon) also hold top 20 marks. Keller is the top listed Warhawk for the men with a time of 2:13.83, seeded eighth. Gramer and Nowakowski are seeded in the top 14. 

200 Butterfly: Three Warhawk men boast top 13 seeds in the event. Sipin is eighth with a time of 2:00.40 while Ozog is tenth at 2:01.70 and Jalen Stimes (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) is listed 13th. Gault is the lone entry for the Warhawk women with a time of 2:28.17, seeded 13th.
