The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's golf team won the Mad Dawg Invite hosted by UW-Stevens Point over the weekend. The originally scheduled 36-hole tournament was shortened due to weather to 27 holes.
After storms pushed back the start time for round one to the afternoon, the squads moved to a nine-hole first round followed by a full 18 Sunday. The Warhawks made a fantastic comeback jumping from third after the first nine to win the invite by just one stroke.
Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig) bolstered UWW's comeback Sunday with the best round of the day - 74. UW-Whitewater carded a 312 Sunday to leap frog both UW-La Crosse and Illinois Wesleyan for the team title. The Warhawks' final round bested IWU by 10 strokes.
Lux registered a 117 for the tournament to tie with teammate
Ellie Johnson (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) for first on the individual leaderboard.
Abbie Reiser (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) (123),
Lily Sheppard (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) (124) and
Emma Norton (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) (140) rounded out the top fivesome at the invite.
Haley Myers (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) also competed in the invite recording a 124 as an individual to tie for 11th.
