The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team wrapped up the first day of the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling in sixth place at the 16-team tournament, which is taking place at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
The Warhawks carded a 319 during Saturday's first round, just one shot out of fifth place and four shy of fourth.
Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) and
Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig) each rank among the top 10 through 18 holes. Sinak is tied for seventh after firing an opening-round 76, while Lux recorded a 77 and is tied for 10th place out of 91 players.
Elizabeth Johnson (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) is tied for 30th with her 81, while
Lily Sheppard (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) is tied for 45th with her 85.
Jennifer Berardi (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) collected an 87 and is tied for 56th overall.
Competing as an individual,
Madi LaPaz (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) is tied for 33rd after posting an 82.
UW-Whitewater also sent six players to Carthage's Firebird Spring Invitational. The team is second out of 14 teams through 18 holes behind three players among the top 15 in the standings.
Haley Myers (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) is tied for sixth with an 83, while
Sydney O'Hearn (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) is tied for 13th after carding an 86.
Grace Westerman (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) is 15th with an 87 and
Lauren Winter (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) is tied for 21st with a 90.
Emma Norton (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) is tied for 35th overall following an opening-round 95.
Jessica LaBerge (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel), competing as an individual, is tied for 46th with a 100.
Final rounds at both tournaments take place Sunday.
