The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team finished the 36-hole Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling Sunday in sixth place out of 16 teams.
Playing in strong winds for most of the round, the Warhawks totaled a 339 during Sunday's final round to total a 658 (319-339), just five strokes shy of fourth place and four out of fifth place.
Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) finished the weekend with a 158 (76-82) to tie for seventh in the 91-player field.
Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig) and
Elizabeth Johnson (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) each finished among the top 25. Lux collected a 164 (77-87) to tie for 23rd and Johnson tied for 25th overall with a 165 (81-84).
Lily Sheppard (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) placed among the top half of the field with a 171 (85-86), good for a tie for 40th, and
Jennifer Berardi (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) tied for 58th after tallying a 177 (87-90).
Competing as an individual,
Madi LaPaz (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) enjoyed a strong second day on her way to a tie for 17th place with a 162 (82-80).
UW-Whitewater also finished second at Carthage's Firebird Spring Invitational, which was held at Bristol Oaks Golf Club in Bristol, Wis. The team carded a two-day total of 703 (346-357).
Haley Myers (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) finished ninth in the 81-player field with a 169 (83-86), while
Lauren Winter (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) tied for 13th with a 174 (90-84).
Grace Westerman (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) and
Sydney O'Hearn (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) were also among the top 25. Westerman tallied a 176 (87-89) to tie for 16th overall, while O'Hearn tied for 25th with her 184 (86-98).
Emma Norton (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) tied for 42nd with a 196 (95-101) and
Jessica LaBerge (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel), competing as an individual, tied for 46th with a 197 (100-97).
The Warhawks host the UW-Whitewater Spring Invitational Friday-Saturday, April 22-23, at Riverside Golf Course in Janesville.
