The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team started its 2022 spring season Saturday by competing in the first round of the Texas Cup at The Courses at Watters Creek in Plano, Texas.
The Warhawks carded a team score of 344 to end the day ninth in the 14-team tournament. UW-W is 11 shots behind eighth-place University of Dallas.
Elizabeth Johnson (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) led UW-Whitewater with a score of 80, good for a tied for 26th individually out of 84 players.
Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig) is tied for 39th with a first-round 83.
Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) fired an 88 and is tied for 56th overall, while
Lily Sheppard (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) is tied for 66th after posting a 93.
Madi LaPaz (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) is 78th after collecting an opening-round 102.
Competing as individuals,
Jennifer Berardi (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and
Grace Westerman (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) are tied for 52nd overall after tallying matching 87s.
Sunday's second round is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m.
