Golfers Claim Lead in Day Two of WIAC Championships

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's golf team claimed the lead after round two of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Reedsburg Golf Course Saturday. The Warhawks erased a five-stroke deficit Saturday to take a two-stroke lead into the final day of competition. 

UW-W and UW-La Crosse have a firm hold on first and second with a 30-stroke margin between the Eagles and second and UW-Stout in third. The Warhawks are aiming for their sixth consecutive WIAC team title. 

UW-Whitewater stayed consistent from their Friday round shaving a stroke off their first round for a 328 Saturday. The Warhawks have a two-round total of 657. 

Elizabeth Johnson (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) registered an 80 Saturday to move into a tie for second on the individual leaderboard with a total of 159. Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) is three strokes back, tied for fourth, with a 36-hole total of 162. Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig) carded an 82 Saturday for a total of 167 to share eighth. Lily Sheppard (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) cut eight strokes off her Friday total for an 81 Saturday. Her total of 170 is tied for 12th while Madison LaPaz is among the top 30 after carding an 86 for a two-round total of 174. 

A number of individuals are also representing UW-Whitewater competing for the individual title. Grace Westerman (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) is tied for tenth with a total of 169. Jennifer Berardi (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and Lauren Winter (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) share 18th with a two-round total of 172. Emma Norton (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) and Abbie Reiser (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) are one and two strokes back from their teammates respectively. Jessica LaBerge (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) is currently tied for 44th with a total of 183. 

The WIAC Championships will wrap up with the final round of play Sunday. 

The winner of the WIAC team title will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship slated for May 9-12, 2023, at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. 

Day One Recap
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's golf team is in second place after the first day of competition in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Reedsburg Golf Course. The Warhawks are aiming for their sixth consecutive WIAC title this weekend as the 54-hole competition is slated to conclude Sunday. 

The Warhawks are just five strokes back of the leader UW-La Crosse and have a 13-stroke lead over the third-place squad from UW-Stevens Point heading into the second day of play. Tee times for round two action Saturday have been pushed back to 10 a.m. due to anticipated frost. 

Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) shares the top spot of the individual leaderboard after carding a 77 Saturday. Ellie Johnson posted a 79 and is currently tied for fourth. Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig), Madi LaPaz (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) and Lily Sheppard (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) are all among the top 30 with first round scores of 85, 88, and 89 respectively. 

A number of Warhawks are also competing individually at the championships. Grace Westerman (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) is tied for fourth with a round score of 79 while Lauren Winter (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) is tied for eighth after carding an 82 in the first round. Emma Norton (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) carded an 84 and is tied for 13th. Jennifer Berardi (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and Haley Myers (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) are tied for 21st with 87s on day one. Abbie Reiser (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) and Jessica LaBerge (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) are also representing UW-Whitewater individually with first round scores of 91 and 93 respectively.
