The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Tom Hoffman Invitational Saturday at the UW-W Cross Country Course.
 
The Warhawk men, ranked 14th in the latest USTFCCCA national poll, won the meet with 30 points, edging runner-up Washington-St. Louis by one point. The women finished fourth with a score of 129.
 
The men placed three of the top four racers out of 190 competitors. David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) crossed the finish line first with his time of 25:30.4. Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) finished as runner-up with a 25:33.9, and Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) tallied a 25:42.2 to place fourth.
 
Kyle Neuroth (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) also finished among the top 15 for UW-Whitewater. Neuroth's time of 26:08.3 was 10th, and Krause's mark of 26:13.4 was 13th.
 
Will MacCudden (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) placed 27th overall with a 27:05.1, and Chris Allen (Downers Grove, Ill./North) rounded out the varsity seven with his 27:14.4, good for 31st.
 
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) led the women with a 24:00.7, good for 20th in the field of 155 runners. Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) placed 26th with her time of 24:28.0, Roxanne Temple (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) crossed the finish line in 25:06.5, good for 35th overall, and Lauren Haas (Jefferson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) clocked a 25:11.5, good for 39th.
 
Other varsity finishers for the Warhawks included Diane Flade (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake), Jill Cavanaugh (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) and Sarah Niehueser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran Academy). Flade posted a 26:08.4, placing 58th overall, Cavanaugh trailed just behind with a 26:10.2, good for 60th, and Niehueser recorded a 27:02.7, good for 75th.
 
UW-Whitewater heads to UW-Eau Claire's Blugold Invitational Oct. 1 at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wis.
