Final Results
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished competition in the calendar year Saturday by each placing fourth at the Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational.
The Warhawks totaled 445 points on the women's side and 403 points on the men's side.
For the women,
Abby Thompson (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) and
Anna Yeazel (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 400-yard individual medley. Thompson recorded a 4:53.52, while Yeazel touched the wall in 5:01.36 after collecting a 4:58.85 in the preliminary race.
Morgan Nabors (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley) tallied a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with her time of 2:00.95.
Gabby Sponseller (Goshen, Ind./Concord) finished fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:32.84, and Yeazel was close behind with a 2:34.90, good for seventh place.
Gianna Gnewuch (Madison, Wis./Verona Area) earned seventh place in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.68 to wrap up the weekend with a pair of top-eight finishes in backstroke events.
Brianna Zimdars (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) swam the 1,650-yard freestyle in 20:19.02, good for eighth place.
Makenna Clark (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West),
Ciara Hynes (Eureka, Mo./Eureka), Sponseller and Nabors combined for a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, completing the race in 3:41.87.
On the men's side,
Dan Emary (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) placed eighth in the 400-yard individual medley with a 4:49.91 after recording a 4:42.99 in the prelim.
Hunter Hayberger (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky) earned fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.92, moving up three spots after qualifying seventh.
Tyler Popke (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) registered his second top-five finish in the breaststroke for the weekend, completing the 200 breast in 2:17.00 (2:16.76 in prelims), good for fifth.
Zach Miller (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington),
Anthony Mrozowski (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), Hayberger and
Donny Gramer (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) teamed up in the 400-yard freestyle relay for fifth place with a time of 3:11.29.
UW-Whitewater is scheduled to host Lawrence and Lake Forest (Ill.) for a tri-meet on Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Williams Center Pool.
