The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's cross country teams tallied impressive performances Saturday at the Inter-Regional Rumble at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
The eighth-ranked Warhawk men finished second in the 35-team field with 67 points, just seven shy of first-place John Carroll (Ohio), the nation's No. 7 team. The UW-W women placed 22nd of 33 teams with 600 points.
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) placed third out of 306 competitors with a time of 25:13.7, just over 14 seconds off the winning pace.
Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) and
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) also finished among the top 10. Schlender's time of 25:32.0 was good for sixth place, while Patzka's mark of 25:41.1 was good for eighth.
Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) crossed the finish line 21st with his time of 26:09.7, and
Kyle Neuroth (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) rounded out the team's top five with a time of 26:20.4, good for 29th overall.
Chris Allen (Downers Grove, Ill./North) finished 44th with his tiem of 26:47.5, and
Christian Seagren (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) completed the team's top seven with a 26:59.2, good for 51st overall.
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) paced the women, placing 64th out of 302 runners with a time of 24:03.9. She was closely followed by
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger), who finished 73rd with her time of 24:09.9.
Roxanne Temple (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) placed third on the team and 118th overall with a result of 24:58.8, while
Jill Cavanaugh (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) crossed the finish line in 26:31.8, good for 202nd.
Sarah Niehueser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran Academy) completed her race in 27:28.9, good for 237th, and
Kristan Larson (Rio, Wis./Rio) finished 241st with a time of 27:37.6.
Alyssa Dobbs (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) rounded out the team's top seven in 247th place with a mark of 27:48.3.
UW-Whitewater hosts the Warhawk Open this Friday starting with the women's 6K at 4 p.m. and the men's 8K at 4:45 p.m.
