The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's cross country teams posted impressive results Friday at the Blugold Invitational at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wis., site of this year's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship and NCAA North Regional.
The eighth-ranked Warhawk men topped the field of 27 teams with a score of 38 that included four top-10 finishes. The women tallied a score of 382 and placed 12th out of 27 teams.
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) pushed his winning streak to three for the men, placing first out of 412 runners with a time of 24:59.88.
Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) trailed by just over 10 seconds, crossing the finish line in 25:10.08 to place second overall.
Christian Patzka (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) placed fourth with his time of 25:23.06, and
Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) finished eighth with a 25:31.83.
Kyle Neuroth (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) earned a spot in the top 25 with his mark of 25:51.70, good for 23rd overall.
Chris Allen (Downers Grove, Ill./North) and
Christian Seagren (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) rounded out UW-Whitewater's varsity seven. Allen posted a result of 26:13.27, good for 32nd, and Seagren completed the race in 26:30.63, good for 44th.
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) paced the women with a 36th-place finish out of 355 competitors, recording a time of 23:44.12.
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) came in next with a 23:55.45, good for 47th overall.
Roxanne Temple (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) crossed the finish line in 24:31.54, good for 69th in the field.
Sarah Niehueser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran Academy) registered a 26:02.93, good for 162nd, while
Jill Cavanaugh (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) tallied a 26:21.00, good for 184th.
Remaining varsity finishers for UW-Whitewater included
Charlatte Shelby (Racine, Wis./Case) and
Alyssa Dobbs (Greendale, Wis./Greendale). Shelby placed 202nd with a 26:45.40, and Dobbs finished 211th in 26:51.00.
The Warhawks return to action next Friday, Oct. 8, at Carthage's Firebird Invitational at Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha. The women's race is set to begin at 4:15 p.m., with the men's 8K scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
