The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team captured the team championship at the 36-hole, two-day Carthage Battle on the Border at Bristol Oaks Golf Club in Bristol, Wis.
The Warhawks carded a 315 on the second day of the tournament to finish with a total of 624 (309-315), nine strokes ahead of runner-up Carthage.
Senior
Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) tied for the individual title in the 92-player field with a second consecutive round of 76 for a two-round total of 152.
Sophomore
Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) and senior
CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) also collected top five finishes. Sinak fired a 155 (75-80) to place third overall, while Knudsen carded a 157 (78-79) to tie for fourth.
Seniors
Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) and
Kristin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) tied for 12th with matching scores of 162. Hofmeister posted an 82 over her final 18 holes, while Bowe improved by two strokes on the second day for an 80.
Freshman
Madi LaPaz (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) led all individuals in the tournament with a 167 (80-87), good for 23rd place. Sophomore
Lauren Winter (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) registered a 168 (81-87) to tie for 24th.
Freshman
Lily Sheppard (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) and sophomore
Billie Jo Parker (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) tied for 33rd and placed 35th, respectively. Sheppard collected a 171 (84-87) in her collegiate debut, while Parker recorded a 172 (83-89). Freshman
Jennifer Berardi (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) improved by nine strokes in her second round for a two-day total of 191 (100-91), which tied for 64th.
UW-Whitewater continues fall action next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7-8, at the Wartburg Fall Invite at Prairie Links in Waverly, Iowa.
