The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team opened the 2019-20 season Friday with a team score of 309, good enough for first place at Carthage's Battle on the Border at Bristol Oaks Golf Club in Bristol, Wis.
The Warhawks lead Carthage by nine strokes heading into Saturday's final round and are 17 strokes in front of third-place UW-Stout.

Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) paced UW-Whitewater with an opening-round 75, the best score of her career, good for second place overall out of 92 players. Senior

Madi LaPaz (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc), who fired an 80 and is tied for ninth overall. Sophomore
Lauren Winter (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) is tied for 13th with an 81, and sophomore
Billie Jo Parker (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) is tied for 19th with an 83. Freshman
