The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team will begin its second straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship this Tuesday at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
The Warhawks tee off at the four-day, 72-hole championship at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday on Hole #10 and continue at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday from the first tee box. Tee times on Thursday are based on scores from the first two days.
After the field is cut from 25 to 15 teams following Thursday's round, play on Friday starts at 7:45 a.m. The top six individuals not on qualifying teams will also compete on the final day.
The Warhawks earned their spot by winning their second consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in the fall. The team tied its own 54-hole record and the conference tournament record with a 942.
UW-Whitewater looks to improve upon its 12th-place finish from last season with a veteran group traveling to Houston.
Juniors
CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) and
Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) top the Warhawks' lineup.
Knudsen leads the team with an average of 78.3 strokes per 18-hole round. The reigning WIAC Player of the Year, Knudsen owns six top 10 finishes this season, including fourth place at the WIAC Championship and three other top five performances.
Hofmeister, who joined Knudsen on the All-WIAC first team, is averaging a 78.9 per round. She tallied medalist honors with a 149 at the UW-Whitewater Fall Invitational on Sept. 22-23 and added three other top 10 finishes, including second place at the conference tournament and UW-Whitewater Spring Fling.
Senior
Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton), junior
Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) and senior
Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) are also set to compete this weekend.
McCue placed 10th at the WIAC Championship and averages an 83.5 entering Friday's first round. Storti averages an 82.8, and Bowe averages an 82.6 and has a trio of top 10 finishes in 2018-19.
Senior
Sabrina Schreck (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) is traveling as an alternate for UW-Whitewater. She recorded a pair of top 10 finishes during the season.
Through 18 holes at the 2018 NCAA Championship, the Warhawks stood 17th and were in danger of missing the 54-hole cut before moving up one spot each day, passing Washington and Lee (Va.) on the third day to enter the final round in the 15th and final qualifying spot.
UW-Whitewater carded a 331 on the final day to move up three more spots to 12th overall, Knudsen led the team by tying for 18th, and Hofmeister tied for 27th.
