The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team opened its spring season with an eighth-place finish at the Washington University Spring Invitational at Tapawingo National Golf Club in Sunset Hills, Mo.
In a field featuring 12 of Division III's top 45 teams and one NAIA team, the Warhawks knocked three strokes off their opening-round total with a 319 for a two-day total of 641, only seven strokes out of fourth place and 12 shy of third.
Junior
CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) led the team and tied for 14th out of 84 players with a 156 (78-78). Junior
Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) also matched her first-round score for a total of 158 (79-79), good for a tie for 24th overall.
Freshman
Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) carded a 163 (81-82) to tie for 39th, and senior
Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton) tied for 45th by carving five strokes off her first-day score for a 165 (85-80).
Junior
Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) round out UW-Whitewater scoring with a 173 (84-89), good for a tie for 62nd.
The Warhawks resume action next Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14, at Illinois Wesleyan's Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling.
