Golf Tied for Fifth in Competitive Field at Wash U.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team is tied for fifth out of 15 teams after the first round of the Washington University Spring Invitational at Tapawingo National Golf Club in Sunset Hills, Mo.
 
The Warhawks tallied a team score of 322 to open their spring campaign, good for a tie with Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.), two shots behind Washington-St. Louis and five behind third-place Carthage.
 
A total of 12 teams ranked among the top 45 in Division III by Golfstat are competing this weekend.
 
Junior CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) is tied for 14th out of 84 players after the first day after carding a 78. Junior Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) is one shot behind in a tie for 20th at 79, and freshman Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) is tied for 27th with an 81.
 
Junior Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) fired an 84 and is tied for 44th, and senior Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton) is tied for 48th after posting an 85.
 
The second and final round will take place Sunday.
