The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team is second after the first day of the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling, which was played Friday on a windy, sunny day at The Beloit Club in Beloit, Wis.
The Warhawks turned in a team score of 326 and are second only behind the nation's No. 1 ranked team, Carleton (Minn.).
Juniors
Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) and
CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) are tied for second in the 84-player field after each firing a first-round 78.
Freshman
Ashton Sinak (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) is tied for 14th with an 84, and senior
Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) is tied for 20th with her 86. Senior
Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton) is tied for 69th overall with a 100.
UW-Whitewater's "B" team also turned in a strong performance with a 363, good for seventh place after the first day.
Junior
Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) is tied for 14th with an 84, and senior
Sabrina Schreck (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) is tied for 28th with an 89 to lead the "B" team. Freshman
Lauren Winter (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) is tied for 44th with a 94, and freshman
Billie Jo Parker (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) is tied for 53rd after tallying a 96.
Competing as an individual, senior
Breanna Bertschinger (Waterford, Wis./Union) completed a round of 96 and is tied for 53rd overall.
The second and final round begins Saturday at 9 a.m.
