The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team will host the annual UW-Whitewater Spring Fling this Friday and Saturday at the Beloit Club in Beloit, Wis.
The 13-team tournament, which includes several of the region's top teams, begins Friday with 18 holes starting at 12 p.m. and continues Saturday at 9 a.m.
The Warhawks will recognize seniors
Breanna Bertschinger (Waterford, Wis./Union),
Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin),
Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton) and
Sabrina Schreck (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) prior to the start of competition along with the seniors from all participating teams.
All four have helped UW-Whitewater claimed back-to-back Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III Championship.
Bertschinger has competed in 41 rounds during her career, including four this season. She carded a career-best 83 in the first round at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling in 2016, when she averaged an 89.3 in four spring rounds. A two-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member and a 2015-16 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar, Bertschinger is majoring in physical education with an emphasis in health, human performance and recreation.
Bowe, a three-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and three-time WGCA All-American Scholar, enters the weekend with 59 rounds of experience. She currently averages a career-best 82.6 strokes per 18-hole round, and carded a personal record 77 in the first round of the 2016 Carthage Shootout on the Border. Bowe is majoring in accounting and is on track to receive a master's in business administration.
McCue transferred to UW-Whitewater in the spring of 2016 following a semester at Division I North Dakota. She garnered second team All-WIAC accolades last season, when she tied for fourth overall at the WIAC Championship and averaged an 83.7 in 23 rounds played. McCue, who has competed in 59 rounds as a Warhawk, owns an average score of 82.2 entering the weekend. She is majoring in general management, and is a two-time WGCA All-American Scholar and member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
Schreck is enjoying the best season of her four-year career, entering the weekend with an 81.2 scoring average. She tied for 11th at the WIAC Championship in the fall and was named second team all-conference. Schreck has competed in 57 rounds and owns a career-best score of 74 from the second round of the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic on Sept. 15-16. She is majoring in psychology with a minor in athletic coaching education.
