The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's wrestling team sent six wrestlers to Roanoke, Va., Friday to compete on the first day at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The no. 14 Warhawks sit at seventh place after the first day of the event with 32 team points, only 4.5 out of third place, and sent three wrestlers to the championship semifinals. Another wrestler remains alive in the consolation bracket. All four clinched All-America accolades.

Riley Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City), earned his ticket to the semifinals and a spot on the All-America podium at 197 pounds by toppling the No. 1 seed, Etiini Udott of Centenary (N.J.), as the eighth seed in the quarterfinals.Â

Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) advanced to the semifinals as the second seed at 125 pounds. He will start tomorrow with a rematch of the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional 125 pound final against No. 3 seed Victor Gilva (Augsburg). Tortorice is now a two-time All-American.

Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) also advanced to the semifinals at 165 pounds with a pair of decisions, including a victory over the No. 3 seed Nicholas Racanelli (Wilkes). The two-year national qualifier earns his first All-America medal.

Nick Stencel (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) dropped his quarterfinals match at 184 pounds to the third seed in his weight class. He stayed alive for Day 2 of the tournament with a victory in his first consolation match and wrapped up his first career All-America honor.

Hazen Rice (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) and freshman
Jaritt Shinhoster (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington) each finished their first-ever appearances in the national tournament with 1-2 records. Rice started his day with a win before falling in consecutive matches, while Shinhoster was defeated in two tightly-contested decisions by seeded opponents.
