The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling squad completed play at the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional in Eau Claire Saturday afternoon, finishing third with three gold medals.
 
The No. 14 Warhawks finished third for the regional with 146 points, behind No. 2 Augsburg and No. 9 UW-La Crosse.  The Warhawks sent all six of their semifinalists into the finals on the day, with three emerging with gold medals.  The Warhawks competed in five of their finals against Augsburg and went 3-2. 

Following the meet, head coach Matt Zwaschka was selected Upper Midwest Regional Co-Coach of the Year, and junior Hazen Rice (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) was named the regional's Co-Most Outstanding Wrestler.
 
Juniors Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) and Rice took down nationally ranked Augsburg opponents in the finals of the 125 and 141 weight classes, respectively.  Ranked no. 3 in the nation, Tortorice emerged with a decision over no. 5 Victor Gilva for the individual title. 
 
Rice, ranked no. 6, took down no. 9 David Flynn with a pin at 0:55 to take the gold after taking down no. 7 Jimmy McAuliffe with a sudden victory in the semifinals.     
 
Fellow junior Riley Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City), ranked fifth nationally at 197 pounds, reached the finals and lost in sudden victory to no. 4 Lance Benick.
 
Freshman Jaritt Shinhoster (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington) reached finals at 174 pounds after toppling no. 3 Sawyer Massie but was forced to forfeit the finals match due to medical reasons. 
 
Senior Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) reached the finals at 165 thanks to a major decision over no. 9 Mark Choinski but fell in the finals to no. 1 Lucas Jeske.
 
Senior Nick Stencel (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) reached the finals as well at 184 pounds and emerged victorious over no. 9 Solomon Nielson in a decision. 
 
Sophomore Mac Casella (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) finished sixth for the regional at 149 pounds after reaching the fifth place match, recording a fall at 3:21 in his second consolation match.
 
Senior Sonny Schieldt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) and junior Nick Sundberg (Woodstock, Ill /Woodstock) both reached the seventh place match at 157 and 285 pounds respectively, with Schieldt finishing eighth and Sundberg seventh.
 
The Warhawks will return to action March 8th-9th for the NCAA Championships in Roanoke, Va. at the Berglund Center.  The Warhawks will be sending six wrestlers to the event after their impressive performance over the last two days.
