The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's cross country teams each placed among the top six Saturday at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships (presented by Culver's) at Cole Acres Golf Course in Cuba City.
The Warhawk men were edged by UW-Oshkosh to finish fifth overall, while the women placed sixth. The two teams combined to earn four All-WIAC honors.
On the men's side, junior
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) recorded his second straight first team All-WIAC finish, placing fourth overall out of 90 runners with a time of 26:23.5. Freshman
Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) and junior
Kyle Neuroth (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) garnered honorable mention all-conference accolades, finishing 18th and 19th, respectively. Krause posted a 27:01.9, while Neuroth crossed the finish line in 27:02.3.
Junior
Conner Hackett (Darlington, Wis./Darlington) recorded a 27:43.2, good for 32nd overall. Freshman
Nick Schmidt (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) registered a 28:03.3 to place 45th.
Other varsity finishers for the Warhawks included freshman
Andrew Lohse (Dixon, Ill./Dixon), who was 51st in 28:18.4, and junior
Clinten Woerishofer (Appleton, Wis./North), who was 54th with a 28:22.6.
The women were led by junior
Jessie Braun (Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine), who picked up honorable mention All-WIAC honors by placing 18th out of 84 entries with a 24:32.9. She is the program's first all-conference runner since 2014. Junior
Sydney Prestifilippo (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) finished just outside of the all-conference cut, placing 27th with a 25:05.6.
Freshman
Alyssa Dobbs (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) and sophomore
Julia Wesley (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) completed the race in a pack, finishing 43rd and 44th, respectively. Dobbs tallied a 25:53.2, and Wesley was just behind in 25:55.4.
Sophomore
Sarah Niehueser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran Academy), freshman
Jill Cavanaugh (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) and junior
Julia Fewell (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) rounded out UW-Whitewater's varsity seven. Niehueser finished 51st in 26:13.0, Cavanaugh placed 53rd in 26:26.2 and Fewell crossed the finish line in 26:39.4, good for 56th.
The NCAA Midwest Regional is slated for Saturday, Nov. 16, at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. The men's 8K begins at 11 a.m., followed by the women's 6K at 12 p.m.
