The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's wrestling squad is sixth out of 38 teams in the first day of the Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational.  The No. 14 wrestling squad sent two players to the semifinals.
 
The Warhawks were led by juniors Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) and Hazen Rice (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) to 53 points on the day, one point ahead of seventh-place North Central (Ill.).
 
Totorice, the top seed in his bracket and ranked seventh nationally, went 3-0 on the day with a fall at 2:20 in the first round and a technical fall at 6:57 in the second round on his way to the semifinals of the 125-weight class.  He will face fourth seed Josiah Gehr (Messiah College) in the semifinals tomorrow.   

Rice, the No. 2 seed in his bracket and ranked tenth nationally, went 3-0 on the day including a pair of major decisions and a fall at 6:41 in the second round to advance to the semifinals.  He will take on the three seed Tanner McHugh (Baldwin Wallace University) in the semifinals tomorrow.
 
Freshman Jaritt Shinhoster (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington) advanced to the quarterfinals in the 174 weight class, recording a fall at 2:41 in the first round before falling with a medical forfeit to the no. 2 ranked wrestler in the nation Jairod Jones (Mount Union) in the quarterfinals.   

Junior Riley Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City), the no. 5 seed in his group, also advanced to the quarterfinals in the 197 weight class but fell in a major decision there.
 
Junior Nick Sundberg (Woodstock, Ill /Woodstock) went 3-1 on the day to stay alive in the 184 consolation bracket, assisted with a fall at the 1:24 mark of the second round.  Freshman Cadin Koeppel (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) recorded a fall at the 6:33 mark in the second round of the 285 bracket as well.
 
The Warhawks will continue action Saturday at 10 a.m. to conclude the invitational.
