The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team is in a tie for first place out of 14 teams following the first round of the Viking Invitational at Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.
The Warhawks, ranked fourth in the latest NCAA Central Region rankings, posted a team score of 314 to tie William Penn (Iowa) after Saturday's first round. UW-Whitewater's "B" team also recorded an impressive performance with a team score of 334, good for sixth in the field.
Sophomore
Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) provided the low round of the day for UW-Whitewater with a 74, good for a tie for second place out of 77 players. Junior
Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton) is also among the top 10 after the opening round with a 77, good for a tie for sixth.
Sophomore
Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) is tied for 14th with an 81, and sophomore
Kristin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) is tied for 19th after carding a first-round 82. Junior
Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) rounds out the Warhawks' five with an 86, good for a tie for 33rd.
Senior
Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) and junior
Sabrina Schreck (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) each stand tied for 19th to lead the "B" team after the first day, each carding an 82.
Junior
Breanna Bertschinger (Waterford, Wis./Union) is tied for 29th with an 84, sophomore
Bella Barbiere (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) is tied for 33rd with an 86 and sophomore
Taylor Scot (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) is 69th with a 100.
Sunday's second and final round begins at 9 a.m.
