The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team carded a 329 in Saturday's first round to sit in a tie for seventh place at the two-day Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
 
The Warhawks are only 10 strokes shy of fourth-place Washington-St. Louis and 20 behind tournament leader Illinois Weslayan.
 
Sophomore CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) fired a 78 to lead UW-Whitewater. She is tied for seventh in the 100-player field.
 
Junior Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton) and sophomore Kristin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) are tied for 33rd after each posting a first-round 83. Sophomore Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) is tied for 46th with an 85, and sophomore Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) registered an 87 and is tied for 51st overall.
 
Competing as an individual, junior Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) recorded a 90 and is tied for 73rd.
 
The final round of the tournament will take place Sunday.
