Competing against five scholarship programs from the Midwest, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team won two of the six singles draws Saturday at the Warhawk Fall Invitational, which was completed at multiple sites in Whitewater, Janesville and Lake Geneva.
Senior
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) claimed singles Flight A with a 2-0 record, including straight-set victories over Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) in the semifinals and UW-Milwaukee in the title match.
Sophomore
Katie Toomire (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) was victorious at Flight F, besting freshman teammate
Ali Ketterhagen (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) in the title match by a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) score. She downed St. Francis (Ill.) and Cardinal Stritch during her path to the championship.
Freshman
Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) won the consolation side of Flight C with a 2-1 mark, including a win over Olivet Nazarene and a victory against junior teammate
Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead).
Freshman
Bryce Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) won her first match in Flight E before a loss against Cardinal Stritch. She claimed the consolation title with victories over freshman teammate
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) and Olivet Nazarene.
The Warhawks resume Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action next Saturday, Oct. 13, at UW-River Falls (9 a.m.) and UW-Stout (3 p.m.).
