The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team welcomed five scholarship teams to southern Wisconsin Friday for the first day of the two-day Warhawk Fall Invite at Premier Tennis and Fitness in Janesville, Janesville Athletic Club in Janesville and Lake Geneva Tennis Club in Lake Geneva.
Seniors
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) and
Julie Martin (Morton, Ill./Morton) finished second at No. 1 doubles to lead the Warhawks. Sophomore
Allie Miller (Sturtevant, Wis./Union Grove) and freshman
Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) combined to place fourth at the second doubles flight, and freshmen
Elsie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and
Bryce Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) finished as runner-up at No. 3.
In singles play, Kitchell advanced to the semifinals at the top flight via bye. Bigelow moved on to the semifinals at the fifth flight with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), and sophomore
Katie Toomire (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) bested St. Francis (Ill.) 6-3, 6-3 to reach the semifinals at the sixth flight.
