The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team sits in a tie for second place out of 13 teams after Saturday's first round at the Mad Dawg Invitational at Stevens Point Country Club in Stevens Point.
Competing against all of its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents, the Warhawks carded a 337 to tie UW-Oshkosh for the second-best team score through one round. UW-Stout leads the field with a 325.
Sophomore
Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) leads the 73-player field with a first-round 76, good for three over par. Sophomore
Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) finished the day tied for 18th with an 86, and sophomore
CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) is tied for 23rd with an 87.
Junior
Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) fired an 88 to stand in a tie for 28th, and junior
Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton) finished the day tied for 31st with an 89.
Sophomore
Kristin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) posted the team's second-best score of the round with an 83, good for 10th place overall, to lead the UW-Whitewater "B" team to sixth place through 18 holes.
Juniors
Breanna Bertschinger (Waterford, Wis./Union) and
Sabrina Schreck (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) registered matching scores of 86 to tie for 18th after Day 1. Sophomore
Bella Barbiere (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) is tied for 40th after collecting a 91, and senior
Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) tallied a 95 to conclude the round tied for 51st.
