The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team won four of six flights Saturday to win the eight-team Warhawk Invite at Wangerin Courts.
The Warhawks claimed all three doubles draws and the top singles draw and finished second in the remaining two singles brackets to post 50 points, 15 more than runner-up Grinnell (Iowa).
Senior
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) didn't drop a set en route to the title at No. 1 singles. She downed the draw's top seed, UW-Eau Claire's Natalie Wijesinghe, by a 6-4, 6-1 count in the final.
Seniors
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) and
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) dropped no more than two games in any set to take the championship at No. 1 doubles. The duo downed Grinnell's top pair 6-2, 6-2 in the final.
Freshmen
Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) and
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) earned the title at the second doubles flight, recording a pair of three-set victories on their way to the championship match, where they downed Augustana's top-seeded entry.
Senior
Brittany Goebel (McHenry, IL/West) and sophomore
Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) completed UW-Whitewater's doubles sweep at No. 3, posting a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over UW-La Crosse in the championship contest.
Junior
Julie Martin (Morton, Ill./Morton) and senior
Kassie Alexander (Waukesha/South) finished as runners-up in the Nos. 2 and 3 singles flights, respectively.
The Warhawks resume action Saturday, Sept. 16, when they visit Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes UW-La Crosse at 9 a.m. and UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m.
