The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team is tied for second place after concluding play in Saturday's first round at the 17-team Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
For the second straight round, the Warhawks set a school record, posting a 305, which is tied with Washington-St. Louis and only one stroke behind UW-Oshkosh, the tournament leader after 18 holes.
UW-Whitewater broke a 33-year-old school record last week with a 315 at the Wartburg Invitational and shaved 10 strokes off of that thanks to four rounds under 80.
Sophomore
CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) is tied for third in the 100-player field after carding a first-round 74, tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history. She fired two 74s last week at Prairie Links.
Junior
Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton) also finished her round among the top 10, turning in a 75, good for a tie for eighth place.

Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and sophomore
Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) tallied matching 78s to forge a tie for 19th place. Sophomore
Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) rounded out Warhawk scoring with an 81.
Competing as an individual, junior
Breanna Bertschinger (Waterford, Wis./Union) registered an 84, good for a tie for 57th overall.
The tournament's second and final round begins Sunday at 9 a.m.
