Behind a record-setting performance by sophomore
CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) and the entire lineup, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team placed ninth at the two-day, 20-team Wartburg Fall Invitational at Prairie Links in Waverly, Iowa.
The Warhawks rose three spots in Sunday's final round, recording a 313 to break a program record for lowest 18-hole team score that was set in 1984 (315). The team's two-day total of 643 was two strokes shy of tying a school record for lowest 36-hole score.
Sophomore
CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) carded a 74 for the second consecutive day to finish with a school-record 148 for the weekend. Her score, which was only four-over par, broke the previous record of 152 set by Sammie Leibham in 2015 and tied for fourth in the tournament's 119-player field.
Sophomore
Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) posted a 159, good for a tie for 22nd overall, after firing a 79 on Sunday.
Junior
Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and sophomore
Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) each totaled 168 to tie for 55th. Bowe improved her first round score by 12 strokes, tallying a 78 on Sunday, and Storti shaved four strokes off with a final round 82.
Junior
Breanna Bertschinger (Waterford, Wis./Union) rounded out Warhawk scoring with a 180 (93-87).
UW-Whitewater returns to action next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16-17, at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
