The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is set to begin major facility upgrades to the baseball and football complexes during the upcoming year.

The Baseball Clubhouse Renovation project at Miller Stadium will commence this month, while the Football Performance Center/Locker Room project at Perkins Stadium will start following the completion of the 2017 season.

The total cost of the projects is $4.95 million and is being largely funded by external dollars raised specifically by the UW-Whitewater athletics department. Improvements to both facilities include an enhanced athletic training facility for rehabilitation services and proactive treatment along with academic enhancements to both facilities that include the addition of classrooms and study areas for student athletes and the upgrades of both locker room facilities.

"The upgrades at Perkins Stadium and Miller Stadium put our football and baseball facilities in a class of their own among NCAA Division III institutions," Director of Athletics Todd Garzarelli said. "These new enhancements continue to provide our student-athletes with first-class amenities for increased performance on the field and allow our student-athletes to compete at the highest level in the classroom.

"We are grateful to our alumni and friends of the program for their generosity in seeing our vision and making these a reality because these facilities are game-changers when it comes to recruiting."

The clubhouse will remain down the first base line and will receive several major updates, including the latest branding, a social suite and patio, an expanded team locker room, meeting room and players lounge, and a kitchenette.

The renovated clubhouse will also house three offices for coaches overlooking the stadium along with a training room to be used by student-athletes for multiple sports.

"When I returned to campus in 1999, one of the first things that Jim Miller and I did was create a shared vision of Warhawk baseball," Head Baseball Coach John Vodenlich said. "Much of our vision included facility upgrades that are included in our current project – the Miller Stadium enhancement project.

"This project has come to fruition with the tremendous generosity of many supporters of our program. This phase in the project focuses on providing our student-athletes with the very best amenities.

"UW-Whitewater strives to lead in the classroom and community. This project will set a new standard for baseball programs nationwide."

A press box and concession stand will be added behind the home plate at Miller Stadium. It will include a first-floor concession area and a second-floor media and operations room and be surrounded by a patio with outdoor furniture.

Perkins Stadium (Football)

The renovated sports medicine area in Perkins Stadium will enhance the health care delivered to Warhawk student-athletes.

The project will allow for a larger treatment and rehabilitation area as well as a private physician's office and additional staff office space. Additionally, student-athletes will have access to plunge whirlpools and an in-ground rehabilitation pool.

The renovations should facilitate a faster recovery from injury and the daily demands of being a student-athlete.

"We are very excited about renovating our locker room and training room to better serve the health needs and enhance the experience for our student-athletes," Head Football Coach Kevin Bullis said. "I cannot explain our appreciation for the great commitment and contributions that have been made to this project."

The façade of the building at the south end of the stadium will be rebranded with updated signage.

The locker room building adjacent to Perkins Stadium will be expanded and renovated to include air conditioning and ventilation and additional space for updates to the locker room, team areas, sports medicine areas and meeting rooms.

Alumni and friends of the program may still purchase a locker for the updated locker room for a price of $1500 payable over five years. To purchase a locker, contact Bob Berezowitz at berezowr@uww.edu or by phone at 262-325-9941.
