The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team has earned an automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division III Championship and will host the eight-team NCAA Midwest Regional at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium in Whitewater.


The Warhawks (35-7 overall), the No. 1 seed at the regional, will host St. Norbert Thursday at 1:15 p.m. in their first NCAA game.
 

UW-Whitewater is making its 10th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 21st overall after picking up one of 41 automatic spots in the 56-team field. The Warhawks finished 3-1 last weekend to win the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, defeating UW-La Crosse by an 8-3 score in the title game. The team claimed its 17th conference regular season title with a 17-3 league record.
 

UW-Whitewater has reached the NCAA Tournament 13 times in the last 15 years and 12 times in 14 seasons under head coach John Vodenlich. The team has qualified for the championship round six times with Vodenlich at the helm, including national championship performances in 2005 and 2014.
