The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team will continue its fight against cancer and recognize a longtime program supporter on Saturday, April 29, during the team's doubleheader against UW-Platteville at noon at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.
The Warhawks will recognize public address announcer Tom Lange for his 40 years of service to the program and hold Tom Lange Bobblehead Day as part of the festivities.
Lange is a longtime backer of multiple Warhawk teams. He currently serves as PA announcer for the wrestling and baseball teams and attends numerous events for other sports.
In addition, UW-Whitewater will recognize catcher
Justin Wegner (Naperville, Ill./Central), who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer last summer after completing his freshman season in purple and white.
All proceeds from admissions and other memorabilia, including JwegStrong wrist bands, will benefit the JwegStrong Fund to help offset costs associated with Wegner's fight against the disease. Tom Lange obbleheads and t-shirts will be available for a minimum $5 donation to the JwegStrong Fund.
Wegner is expected to join the team in the dugout Saturday and will be recognized on the field between the first and second games of the doubleheader.
The Warhawks (21-3 overall, 8-0 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), who are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in the American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III Poll, enter this weekend's four-game series at UW-Stevens Point alone in first place in the WIAC standings.
