The No. 14 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team posted a 1-1 record Sunday to finish third out of 11 teams at the three-day Valparaiso Crusader Classic at Lakewood Bowl in Richton Park, Ill.
The Warhawks also broke a nearly five-year-old school record with a 290 Baker game during their 4-2 win over Central Missouri. After a spare in the first frame, UW-Whitewater closed the match with 11 consecutive strikes to best the previous record of 268 set on Dec. 2, 2012.
Junior
Karissa Gonio (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown), sophomores
Emma Kuhn (Texas City, Texas/Texas City),
Lauren Price (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), seniors
Amanda Van Duyn (Kenosha, Wis./Kenosha Bradford) and
Taylor Hoppe (Rockford, Ill./Thomas Jefferson) represented the Warhawks in the historic Baker game.
UW-Whitewater fell 4-1 against top-ranked Nebraska in its only other game of the day.
Van Duyn led the Warhawks with an 11th-place finish in traditional games out of 79 bowlers. She averaged a 201.33 in six games, registering the top game of the weekend with a 227 in the team's fourth game.
Senior
Ashleigh Miller (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) placed 13th overall with a 200 average, and Hoppe finished 16th with a 196.33. Price averaged a 192.33, good for 19th place.
Kuhn rounded out UW-Whitewater scoring with a 190.83, good for 22nd place overall.
The Warhawks return to action March 2-4 at the Big Red Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
