Warhawks Finish Third at Windy City Classic

The UW-Whitewater women's bowling team went 3-0 on bracket Sunday to secure a third-place finish in the Windy City Halloween Classic hosted by Valparaiso University over the weekend. 

The Warhawks, seeded fifth heading into Sunday, opened the final day of the tournament with a sweep of Alabama A&M. UWW registered games of 191, 188, 201 and 214 while A&M's top game was 198 in the final Baker. 

Match two went to six games against McKendree. After dropping the first Baker by a narrow margin, 157-169, UWW put up a huge total to win 255-184. McKendree got game three 166-189 before the Warhawks ran off the next three 184-150, 175-162 and 191-184. 

UW-Whitewater came back to defeat Wright State in the battle for third. WSU won the first two 149-165 and 149-181 before the Warhawks got on the board with a 222-168 win in game four. McKendree took a 3-1 lead with a 164-201 win, but once again UWW claimed the next three. The Warhawks won 204-161, 160-126 and 225-165 to claim third. 

The Warhawks have a week off before returning to competition on November 14-16 at the Bearcat Invitational in Fairview Heights, Illinois.

Day Two Recap
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's bowling team moved to 5th in the Windy City Classic after day two of competition. They will play Alabama A&M in the First Round of the play-offs tomorrow.

The Warhawks opened the day with a 932-845 victory over host Valparaiso in the first of five traditional games. That would be their lone head-to-head victory of the day, falling to #20 Wright State (944-938), U-Indy (921-887), #10 Maryville (1016-823), & Carroll (870-797).

UW-Whitewater ranked fifth after the games, totaling 4,377 pins during the traditional games to bring the total to 9,022 on the invite. 

On the Individual standings, Elizabeth Vanderhei (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) led the team, ranking 10th with 979 total pinfall for a 195.80 average. Zoey Darwin (Monona, Wis./Monona Grove) was close behind for 12th place, with a 959 (191.80 average).

The Warhawks will continue the Windy City Classic with the play-off bracket set for Sunday, November 2nd. The Warhawks will face 6th-seeded Alabama A&M to start the day.

Day One Recap
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's bowling team moved into third place at the Windy City Classic after the first day of competition in Des Plaines, Ill.

The first day was five Baker Matches, with the Warhawks going 3-2 with a total pinfall of 4,645. They opened the day with a 980-736 victory over Elmhurst College before falling to Lewis, 932-880, and Marian, 873-844. 

The Warhawks finished the day strong with the two wins in the final two Baker matches. UWW defeated Western Illinois 943-827, followed by their best outing of the day with a day-high 998 pins against Carthage College in the fifth match.

The Warhawks will continue competition tomorrow with five traditional matches. They will start the day against the host, and top-team after day one, Valparaiso.
