The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team claimed its third-ever Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and first since 1999 Sunday afternoon with a conference meet record score of 942 at the WIAC Championship Presented by Culver's at Reedsburg Country Club.
With the tournament championship, the Warhawks claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, which is set for May 8-11 at Mission Hills Resort Golf Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
Sophomores
CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) and
Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) finished first and second, respectively, in the 52-player field.
Trailing UW-Stout by three strokes entering the final round, UW-Whitewater carded a 311 Sunday to post a score line of 322-309-311=942 for the three-round tournament, besting the WIAC Championship 54-hole record by 21 strokes. The team also shattered the 32-year-old, 54-hole school record by 40 strokes.
In her first year as a Warhawk, Knudsen became the second straight Warhawk medalist with a 54-hole school record score of 233 (80-75-78), just one stroke ahead of Hofmeister (79-80-75=234), the 2016 champion.

Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton) also secured a top-five finish with a 236 (82-75-79), good for a tie for fourth place. Sophomore
Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) placed eighth with a 239 (81-79-79).

Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) tied for 25th overall with a 258 (84-83-91).
Sophomore
Kristin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) led all individuals at the meet and placed 12th overall with a 243 (79-87-77). Junior
Sabrina Schreck (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) tied for 28th with a 261 (89-86-86), and senior
Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) fired a 265 (92-87-86) to place 32nd.
Junior
Breanna Bertschinger (Waterford, Wis./Union) finished with a 319 (115-101-103) to finish 51st.
Following the tournament, Jefferson was selected to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
UW-Whitewater captured its first conference championship in 1996 and last competed in the NCAA Tournament in 2004, when Lisa Irons tied for 26th playing as an individual qualifier. Knudsen is the program's fifth-ever medalist and second since 1999.
