The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team posted several impressive results against five scholarship schools Saturday on the second and final day of the Warhawk Fall Invitational at Janesville Athletic Club and Premier Tennis and Fitness in Janesville.
Senior
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) and freshman
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) took home titles in the Nos. 1 and 3 singles draws, respectively.
Talyansky bested opponents from Division I UW-Green Bay and NAIA opponents from Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) and St. Francis (Ill.) in straight sets en route to the championship. Palavra punched her ticket to the final after winning a third-set super tiebreaker over UW-Green Bay, then bested Cardinal Stritch in straight sets.
Senior
Brittany Goebel (McHenry, IL/West) finished as runner-up in the No. 4 draw after downing a UW-Green Bay opponent in the semifinals. Sophomore
Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) placed second in the No. 5 draw after defeating Cardinal Stritch in a third-set super tiebreaker, and freshman
Katie Toomire (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) reached the final at No. 6.
Freshman
Jazmyne Schoeller (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) finished third at No. 6 with a win over Olivet Nazarene.
Seniors
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) and
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) travel to Rome, Ga., next week for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Oracle Cup. The duo will compete in the doubles draw starting Thursday.
The rest of the team will face UW-Stout and UW-River Falls in a pair of home matches next Saturday, Oct. 14, at Wangerin Courts starting at 10 a.m.
