The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team improved by 14 strokes as a team Sunday to finish second at the two-day, 13-team Mad Dawg Invitational at Stevens Point Country Club in Stevens Point, Wis.
The Warhawks' score of 323 tied for the best in the field Sunday and gave the team a 660 for the weekend, only three strokes shy of tournament champion UW-Stout.
Sophomore
Ashley Hofmeister (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) won her third tournament of the year, claiming medalist honors with a 155 (76-79), two strokes ahead of UW-Oshkosh's Micayla Richards and UW-Stout's Rachel Hernandez. It was Hofmeister's fifth tournament win in her two-year career.
Junior
Kaitlin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) surged 18 spots up the leaderboard with a final round of 80 to finish the weekend tied for 10th with a 168 (88-80). Junior
Maddie McCue (Milton, Wis./Milton) tied for 15th with a 169 (89-80), and sophomore
CheyAnn Knudsen (Milton, Wis./Milton) finished 19th with a 171 (87-84).
Sophomore
Kelly Storti (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) fired a 175 (86-89) to tie for 25th overall in the 73-player field.
Sophomore
Kristin Bowe (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) totaled a 168 (83-85) to tie for 10th and lead the UW-Whitewater "B" team to a sixth-place finish with a 703 (346-357).
Junior
Sabrina Schreck (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) carded a 175 (86-89) to tie for 25th, and senior
Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) moved up eight spots to a tie for 43rd with a 182 (95-87). Sophomore
Bella Barbiere (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) tallied a 187 (91-96) to tie for 47th, and junior
Breanna Bertschinger (Waterford, Wis./Union) placed 60th with a two-day total of 199 (86-113).
The Warhawks conclude the fall season at next week's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, which begins Friday at 12 p.m. at Reedsburg Country Club in Reedsburg, Wis.
