The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed Saturday at UW-Eau Claire in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet in Eau Claire, Wis.
The Warhawk men (4-2 overall, 1-2 WIAC) were defeated 156.5-137.5, while the women (5-1, 2-1) suffered their first dual loss of the season by a 180-118 score.
Senior
Dan Bielski (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) won three individual events to lead the men. He placed first in the 100-yard butterfly in 53.56 seconds and swept the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events with times of 53.36 and 2:00.46, respectively.
Bielski also teamed with sophomore
Thomas Stigler (Milwaukee, Wis./Muskego), freshman
Drew Borland (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and senior
Alex Gidlow (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:38.25.
Senior
Sam Bowman (Onalaska/Onalaska) claimed first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a result of 1:47.73. Freshman
Cody Heckendorf (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:20.21, nearly three seconds faster than the runner-up.
On the women's side, senior
Margaret Lotzer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) claimed first place in both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle races. Lotzer finished the 500 in 5:24.51 and the 1000 in 11:07.56.
Senior
Sarah Arteaga (Greenfield/Whitnall) and sophomore
Erin Hawker (Chanhassen, Minn./Hutchinson) also won individual events. Arteaga took the 200-yard backstroke in 2:11.59, nearly five seconds better than the runner-up. Hawker touched the wall in a career-best 1:02.28 to win the 100-yard butterfly.
The Warhawks wrap up the regular season next Saturday at home against UW-La Crosse. Events are set to begin at 1 p.m. on Senior Day at the Williams Center Pool.
