The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team advanced all six of its entries to the finals of their respective flights Saturday at the Warhawk Invite at Wangerin Courts.
With the help of three first-place finishes and three runner-up placements, the Warhawks totaled 48 points to win the eight-team tournament. Augustana (Ill.) was second with 31, followed by UW-Eau Claire and UW-La Crosse, which each tallied 30.
Sophomore
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) and junior
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) claimed the top two singles flights. Kitchell finished 3-0 in the No. 1 bracket, downing Bridget Bellisimo of UW-La Crosse 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) in the final match. Wallace swept all three of her matches in straight sets, including a second-set tiebreak in the championship match against Augustana's Caitlyn Schaffer.
Senior
Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and junior
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) didn't surrender more than two games in any of their six sets to place first in the No. 1 doubles draw.
Junior
Kassie Alexander (Waukesha/South) earned a trip to the finals at No. 3 singles with a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) triumph over Megan Hippe of Illinois Wesleyan. She was outlasted in a competitive 6-3, 6-3 contest against Kendra Berry of UW-Eau Claire.
Juniors
Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) and
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) finished 2-1 at No. 2 doubles to place second, and junior
Brittany Goebel (McHenry, IL/West) and freshman
Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) combined for a 2-1 record and a runner-up placement at No. 3 doubles.
UW-Whitewater continues action Tuesday at Wheaton (Ill.) at 4 p.m.
