The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's & women's tennis programs competed against DII opponent Roosevelt University in a doubleheader on Saturday.
The men's team began the day against the Lakers. The Warhawks took the early doubles point with Gavin Kelleher (Brooklyn, Minn./Champlin Park) & Charles Morgan (Naperville, Ill./Central) winning 6-3 at the second doubles flight as well as Julius Jonsson (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Aranäsgymnasiet) & Keith Moeller (Dallas, Tex./DKM-I University Prep) taking the third doubles flight at 6-3.
The Lakers bounced back taking four singles flights to clinch the match. Keith Moeller (Dallas, Tex./DKM-I University Prep) picked up the lone singles match for the Warhawks, winning the fifth singles flight in straight sets.
The last match to finish for the men's dual was at the top singles flight. Charles Morgan (Naperville, Ill./Central) pushed Roosevelt's top player all the way to the end. Morgan fell in the first set tiebreaker, but forced a third set tiebreaker with a 7-5 second set win. Morgan fell in the third set tiebreaker 5-10 in the close match.
The women's team match took their dual over the Lakers 4-3, coming down to the final singles match to clinch the victory for the Warhawks.
Gracie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) & Abigail Weaver (Wakarusa, Ind./Mishawaka Marian) took the top doubles flight, 6-4, but Roosevelt grabbed the doubles point winning the second two flights.
The Warhawks were able to equalize the team score with straight set wins from Gracie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) at the second singles flight & Crystina Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) at the fourth flight.
The Lakers grabbed two of their own single matches to bring their team score up to 3-2.
Abigail Weaver (Wakarusa, Ind./Mishawaka Marian) kept the Warhawks in the dual with a three set win at the top singles flight. Weaver fell in the first set 4-6. But took the second set 6-1. In the decisive third, Weaver brought the team score to 3-3 with a 6-4 win.
Ashley Adkisson (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) took the decisive match for the Warhawks at the sixth singles flight. Adkisson took her match in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-0 to clinch the 4-3 win for the Warhawks.
The Warhawks tennis programs will head to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for their annual spring trip. Both teams begin play against Carleton College on March 24th.
