Box Score 2 The No. 6 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball finished the weekend 1-3 against No. 5 ranked UW-La Crosse in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference four game series held in La Crosse, Wis.
The Warhawks (22-9 overall, 9-7 WIAC) dropped the first game by a score of 11-1 in a shortened seven inning game, but rebounded in the second game with a 12-2 win in eight innings.
In the opener, UW-Whitewater posted a run in the top of the first inning, but were unable to score for the remainder of the contest. The Eagles (26-7 overall, 15-1 WIAC) tallied three runs in the bottom of the first, five in the second, and one in each of the last three innings of play.
Sophomore pitcher
Lake Bachar (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) started the game but only lasted one and 1/3 innings. Bachar took the loss moving him to 5-4 on the season. Junior
John Olejniczak (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) came in, in relief giving up one run on one hit in an inning and 2/3rds. Freshman
Riley Gruetzmacher (Oconto Falls, Wis./Oconto Falls) and junior
James Georgakas (Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth) each pitched a little over an inning of work. Freshman
Sam Heilenbach (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) recorded the final out of the contest.
Freshman left fielder
Matt Wary (Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove) lead the game off with a single up the middle. Wary finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore designated hitter
Blake Fleischman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) singled home Wary who advanced to second on a passed ball to score the Warhawks lone run of the game.
Freshman first baseman
Aaron Markley (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy), sophomore center fielder
Austin Jones (Wauwatosa, Wis./West), and freshman third baseman
Cal Aldridge (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) all posted a hit on the afternoon.
In the second game, the Warhawks exploded for seven runs in the top half of the second inning which proved to be enough to seal the victory. Aldridge led the UW-Whitewater offense which totaled 12 hits in the second contest. Aldridge finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
Freshman catcher
Justin Wegner (Naperville, Ill./Central) got the scoring started again in the top of the third inning with a two-run homerun his first of the season.
Wary and Markley each posted two hits in the night cap. Senior designated hitter

Steve Chamberlain (Rockford, IL/Guilford), junior shortstop
Jordan Kuczynski (Germantown/Germantown) and Jones all recorded a hit apiece.
Junior lefty
Ankur Shah (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) scattered five hits over seven innings to pick up his fourth win of the season (4-1). Jones who started the game in center field came into pitch a scoreless eighth inning and seal the victory for the Warhawks.
UW-Whitewater returns to action this Wednesday as they travel to the University of Concordia, Wisconsin before returning home for a six game home stand starting on Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader against St. Norbert College starting at 3:30 p.m. UW-Stout comes to town for a four game series starting on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.
