Women’s Tennis Unbeaten on First Day at WIAC Championship

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team advanced in all singles and doubles flights without a loss Saturday on the first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
 
The Warhawks advanced to all three doubles championship matches and moved into the second round of all six singles flights.
 
Senior Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper), sophomore Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest), junior Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead), junior Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) and senior Rachel Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/South) had byes and advanced to the second round of the Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 singles flights, respectively.
 
Junior Brittany Goebel (McHenry, IL/West) recorded a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in her first round match at No. 5 singles to advance to the second round of the draw.
 
Humphreys and Kitchell, the top-seeded doubles pair, advanced to the title match at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 victory over UW-Oshkosh. Talyansky and Wallace teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over UW-Oshkosh to move on to the championship match of the draw.
 
Siemon and Goebel will also play in a championship match following an 8-2 triumph over UW-Stout at No. 3.
 
All three doubles teams earned byes to the second round as the top seeds in their respective brackets.
 
Play at the WIAC Championship continues Sunday at 9 a.m. with the last two rounds of singles and the doubles finals.
