Baseball Earns NCAA Bid, Begins Title Defense at UW-La Crosse

The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team has earned an at-large berth to the 2015 NCAA Division III Tournament and will compete this week in the Midwest Regional at UW-La Crosse, the NCAA announced early Monday morning.

The region's No. 1 seed, the Warhawks will take on eighth-seeded Ripon to start NCAA play Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. at Copeland Park.

The winner of Wednesday's game will face the winner of the No. 4 St. John's (Minn.)/No. 5 Coe (Iowa) game Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The losers of Wednesday's games will play each other in an elimination game Thursday at 10 a.m.
 
UW-Whitewater (33-9 overall), the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season champion for the third straight season, received one of 14 Pool C, or at-large, berths into the 56-team field.
 
The Warhawks will be joined at Copeland Park in La Crosse by Coe (Iowa), Concordia Chicago, Ripon, St. John's (Minn.), St. Scholastica (Minn.), Washington (Mo.) and UW-La Crosse. Brackets for each regional have yet to be released.
 
The Warhawks will make their eighth straight appearance in the national tournament and 19th in the program's history. UW-Whitewater has advanced to the NCAA Division III or NAIA World Series seven times, including four times in the last 11 years.
